At the Australian Industry Trade College, we're seeking a highly skilled Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you'll have the chance to make a real impact.

About the Role

This full-time position will see you working closely with our operations team to ensure that all aspects of our health, safety, and environmental practices are in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for implementing and maintaining our WHS Management System (WHSMS), which includes conducting regular site inspections, monitoring performance, and identifying control measures.

You'll also play a crucial role in providing advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on WHS matters, including compliance, reporting, and management of the safety management system. Your strong communication skills will be essential in ensuring that all staff members understand their roles and responsibilities when it comes to WHS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining WHS policies and procedures to meet legislative requirements and organisational needs
  • Monitoring WHS performance, implementing the audit schedule, conducting regular site inspections, completing risk assessments, and identifying control measures
  • Comprehensive WHS reporting for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Board, and Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
  • Overseeing the continued development and maintenance of the Work Health Safety Management System (WHSMS)
  • Reviewing and reporting on major incidents as required under the WHSMS, liaising with the regulator if necessary
What You'll Need

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Tertiary qualification in WHS or minimum Cert IV in Work Health Safety
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work Advisor qualification and experience
  • Minimum 4 years health, safety, and environment experience in Australia, with a solid knowledge of federal and state legislation related to HSE programs
  • Effective communicator at all levels across diverse groups of people
  • Collaborative, active listener with the ability to add value and work effectively within teams
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated analytical thinking
  • Demonstrated strong capacity to manage time and schedule with the ability to prioritise activities based on risk
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills for a variety of audiences

We estimate the annual salary for this role to be around $110,000 - $130,000 AUD, depending on experience.
