Nautical Training Program

As a participant in this esteemed program, you will embark on a two-year journey that involves placements on various merchant vessels to achieve the required 18 months of sea-time needed for becoming a qualified Deck Watchkeeper.

Duties:
  • Bridge watchkeeping, encompassing celestial navigation, Meteorology, Electronic navigation systems, Tides & Sailings, Chart work, Passage planning, and Chart & publications corrections.
  • Lifesaving & firefighting appliances maintenance, tank soundings, Security watches, Stability & structure calculations, medical duties, Customs, Immigration & legal forms, Audits & inspections.
  • Pilotage operations, Shipboard Management & safety management systems, mooring operations, Cargo operations, and Deck maintenance.
  • Fulfilling shipping companies' OHS, Drug & Alcohol policies & company guidelines, and completing Training and Guidance study workbook issued by college.
  • Emailing a list of jobs performed on board to mentor fortnightly and following instructions from Ships Captain and any supervisors.
Requirements:
  • A completed Bachelor of Applied Science (Nautical Science) Pre-Sea degree.
  • Ability to hold a Maritime Security Identification card (MSIC).
  • Ability to hold an AMSA medical certificate.
  • Be an Australian citizen who holds a current Australian passport.
