Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research assists the University to contribute effectively to Australia's educational and social development by making staff and students aware of Indigenous Australian cultures and associated issues. About the role

The Indigenous Outreach and Events Officer plays a pivotal role in planning, coordinating, and participating in activities and events to promote study opportunities at UTS. This includes coordinating the Galuwa programs, a key schools engagement experience, and engaging with local, regional, and remote schools, as well as attending careers markets, job fairs, and community-related events.

Within the scope of this position, you will perform a range of administrative tasks as directed by the Senior Indigenous Outreach and Events Officer, who reports to the Indigenous Outreach Manager.

About the position

As the Indigenous Outreach and Events Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the planning and implementation of promotional campaigns to attract increased numbers of Indigenous student enrolments.
  • Assisting with the promotion of Indigenous cultural activities and dates to raise awareness within the University, Indigenous, and broader community, including developing a calendar of identified key dates.
  • Assisting with developing and designing marketing and promotional materials to market programs to engage an Indigenous audience.
  • Developing relationships and knowledge of individual faculty course offerings to liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders to optimise resources and improve outcomes.
  • Working with the Jumbunna Pathways and Outreach Coordinator to develop evaluation strategies that align with UTS strategic objectives related to Indigenous outcomes.

  • Ability to work as a team member and contribute professionally to the strategic objectives of Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research and the strategic directions of the University of Technology Sydney.
  • Ability to represent JIIER at public forums and functions (e.g., careers markets).
  • Demonstrated project management skills (e.g., aspiration-raising events, lectures, seminars, and awards events).
  • Experience in coordinating and managing events in an Indigenous setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specific issues relating to coordinating events in an Indigenous setting.

  • Of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
  • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and
  • Accepted as such by the community in which you live or have lived.

Remuneration & Benefits

This role offers a base salary range of $81,445 to $93,173 per annum (HEW 5).
