Job Opportunity: Counsellor at Eltham High School

This is a part-time Counsellor position available at an esteemed Melbourne school, renowned for its academic excellence and diverse co-curricular programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing confidential counselling services to students, including addressing their needs, supporting preventative social and emotional learning initiatives, and working with students experiencing difficulties academically, socially, or in their personal life.

To achieve this goal, the Counsellor will collaborate closely with the Student Services Team, comprising the Mental Health Practitioner, Art Therapist, and other support agencies, to provide comprehensive support to students.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to student needs
  • Implement effective programmes promoting positive health and wellbeing
  • Support students facing challenges academically, socially, or personally
  • Work specifically with students living independently of their families
  • Maintain relationships with external organisations, such as Austin and Maroondah CYMHS, Royal Children's Hospital, Headspace, Berry Street, Navigator, and Mental Health Services

Necessary Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in delivering proactive, evidence-based interventions for students
  • Able to contribute to a multidisciplinary team of wellbeing professionals
  • Understanding of current research and approaches related to student mental health, wellbeing, and engagement
  • Familiarity with policies influencing student wellbeing
