The State Government of Victoria, Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join its team as a Legislative Policy Specialist. This is a critical role that will provide authoritative advice on complex legal, legislative, regulatory, and policy issues.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-level research and analysis of complex legal, legislative, and policy issues.
- Develop and implement legislative proposals, including drafting and reviewing Bills and regulations.
- Advise on complex issues, including development of precedents, and advise departmental and agency staff on processes and requirements for primary and subordinate legislation.
- Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in the Legislation and Policy Team, the Office of the General Counsel, program areas across the department, and with external lawyers.
- Negotiate and manage complex or sensitive matters in various jurisdictions.
- Assist with organisational improvement, capacity, and capability building projects, and other tasks relevant to the Office of the General Counsel's functions.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of legislative processes, including Cabinet, Executive Council, and Parliamentary processes and requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of and experience in the principles and practice of administrative and constitutional law with strong statutory interpretation skills.
- High-level research, conceptual, and analytical skills and proven ability to develop recommendations on complex legal, legislative, and policy issues.
To be considered for this role, you must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of legislative processes, administrative and constitutional law, and the ability to provide high-level research and analysis of complex issues.
