About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Health Specialist (Process) to join the Whitehaven Coal team. Reporting to the Health Safety Superintendent, the Health Specialist will support injury management, injury classification, auditing and coaching the site's medical center personnel, fitness for work and medical surveillance programs, management of workplace health exposures, occupational hygiene sampling and risks, and health and wellbeing promotional and prevention activities and/or programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ongoing contribution and review of key health, injury management and hygiene initiatives to achieve risk minimisation
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of health and hygiene management systems
  • Provide subject matter advice to fitness for work, mental and physical wellbeing programs
  • Assist with the implementation of health and hygiene projects across the WHC Group
  • Provide coaching and subject matter advice to frontline leaders
  • Contribute to the development of the Injury and Illness Management program
  • Assist and improve the Whitehaven Coal health surveillance program
Requirements
  • At least 2 years' experience in the field of occupational health, preferably in a mining environment
  • Tertiary qualifications in a Health Sciences related area of study such as Occupational Therapy/ Nursing/ Physiotherapy or Occupational Hygiene - career progression within the health stream will require completion of tertiary education in a health science fields
  • Current or previous Certificate of Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (desirable)
  • Demonstratable knowledge of legislative requirements relating to health in Queensland Coal Mining industry, including the Coal Mine Workers' Health Scheme and Recognised Standards applicable to health and hygiene
  • Demonstratable knowledge of health risk management principles and implementing continuous improvement
