Job Title: Regulatory Compliance Director

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced regulatory compliance professional to join our team in Australia.

  • This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.
About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our regulatory compliance program in Australia, including monitoring and managing compliance with AFSL obligations, advising the business on day-to-day compliance related matters, and assisting in the review and submission of reconciliations and regulatory reports.

  • Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing support to the team in managing our regulatory compliance program in Australia
  • Monitoring and managing compliance with AFSL obligations
  • Advising the business on day-to-day compliance related matters
  • Assisting in the review and submission of reconciliations and regulatory reports
  • Liaising with compliance officers globally on business activities conducted across different countries
  • Providing advice on new products and new business structures
  • Managing internal compliance operational controls and carrying out assessments as required
  • Monitoring services provider SLAs and providing feedback where needed
  • Handling regulatory inquiries
  • Handling bankruptcy requests, deceased estate requests and Centrelink cases
  • Handling internal and external escalated disputes including AFCA liaison
  • Performing compliance assessments of digital assets
  • Assisting with third party due diligence processes
  • Reviewing marketing materials
  • Reviewing and advising on escalated financial crime cases
  • Developing and maintaining compliance policies and procedures
  • Assisting in updating the compliance program and work plan on a regular basis
  • Updating the business on regulatory changes
  • Supporting reviews, audits and inspections from external parties, including regulators, and ensuring relevant findings are remediated appropriately
  • Supporting preparation of management and board reporting that includes insights and analysis based on industry-leading knowledge of regulatory compliance topics
  • Assisting in responses to industry consultations on digital asset regulation
  • Assisting in handling various compliance projects
  • Ensuring staff adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Promoting compliance awareness and providing compliance training where needed
  • Performing duties and providing support as 2IC for the Australian compliance team
  • Carrying out other compliance-related duties as instructed by VP Regulatory Compliance from time to time
  • Staying up-to-date with the current regulatory landscape and compliance requirements of the cryptocurrency industry
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in financial services compliance
  • Bachelor's degree and RG146 compliance ACAMS certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of AFSL obligations, derivatives compliance and associated reporting
  • Leadership and management skills including experience managing a team
  • Familiarity with ASIC and AUSTRAC requirements a must
  • Familiarity with RBA and APRA requirements preferred
  • Knowledge of the applicable contemporary practices in the field of Compliance, including but not limited to understanding of regulatory matters regarding AFSL and AML legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to read, analyse and interpret applicable legislation in the field of financial services/technologies
  • Ability to write briefs, reports and business correspondence
  • Strong presentation and verbal communication skills to liaise with people at all levels both inside and outside the organisation
  • Team player, self-motivated, dependable, adaptable and detail-oriented individual with analytical, writing and organisational skills required
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise and act fast
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to pick up new ideas and concepts quickly
  • Crypto and blockchain knowledge is highly desirable and an interest in cryptocurrency and the fintech ecosystem is a must
  • Advanced computer literacy including computer skills such as regulatory portals, CRM, spreadsheets, powerpoint and word processing
  • An inquiring mind and methodical approach with high attention to detail
  • Must be based in Australia
