This role is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our team as a Sports Turf Maintenance Apprentice.

As a key member of our Open Spaces team, you will support us in gaining practical skills in turf maintenance and work closely with our experienced staff to achieve exceptional results.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to rotate through various areas of open spaces, turf/sportsfield maintenance, and greenkeeping, allowing them to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge.

This apprenticeship will provide you with the chance to complete a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management Course at Yallah TAFE, equipping you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this field.

Once you have completed your apprenticeship, you will be a skilled practitioner with four years of hands-on experience and formal qualifications.

Our ongoing commitment to expanding our Cadet, Apprentice, and Trainee (CAT) program aims to create job opportunities and develop a talent pipeline for specialized roles.

Council's CAT program focuses on growing our skilled workforce capacity by providing employment opportunities, professional development experiences, and supporting related tertiary study.

As a Council employee, you will receive ongoing training, guidance, and support from workplace mentors while completing a nationally recognized qualification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Open Spaces team in gaining practical skills in turf maintenance
  • Rotate through various areas of open spaces, turf/sportsfield maintenance, and greenkeeping
  • Develop a broad range of skills and knowledge
  • Complete a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management Course at Yallah TAFE
  • Work closely with experienced staff to achieve exceptional results

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Apprentice or trainee status in a related field
  • Completed Year 10 or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use software applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Benefits:

  • Temporary full-time position up to 4 years (or for the duration of the apprenticeship)
  • 38 hours per week with access to a 9-day fortnight
  • Salary ranges from $601.70 per week (for a 16-year-old) up to $827.40 per week (for someone aged 18 and over)
