Aboriginal Health Leadership Role

The role of Chief First Nations Health Officer is a key senior leadership position that plays a crucial part in elevating the visibility and strategic importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health across Queensland.

This role requires a leader who can provide culturally safe strategic leadership, strengthening high-level relationships across government and community sectors. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of advocating for and leading health equity strategies for First Nations peoples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally safe strategic leadership to elevate the visibility and strategic importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health across Queensland.
  • Strengthen high-level relationships across government and community sectors.
  • Lead the delivery of Queensland Health's First Nations Health Equity Strategies.
  • Advise the Minister on state, national, and international issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.

Requirements:

  • Direct experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and identity.
  • Proven track record of advocating for and leading health equity strategies for First Nations peoples.
  • Strong governance, policy, and strategic planning experience.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in addressing institutional racism and embedding culturally safe practices within health systems.
