Cyber Security Engineer for Defence Digital Transformation

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join our Defence account in Canberra, working within the Security Architecture and Engineering team.
The successful candidate will represent security requirements and best practices across various disciplines, including Project Pipelines, Network Operations, Systems Engineering, and Architecture.
About the Role
This role involves deploying, configuring, and sustaining a set of cyber security products and technologies, such as Host Based Security Products, SIEM, Network IPS, and related management solutions.
A key focus of the team is the ongoing deployment and maintenance of SIEM technologies across a complex environment, as well as the automation of existing security processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of this role include:
- Assisting with design, deployment, and maintenance of Splunk and Tenable;
- Working with operational teams to ensure Splunk is configured appropriately and fit for purpose;
- Developing reliable, efficient queries that feed custom alerts and dashboards;
- Creating and maintaining documentation related to Splunk infrastructure;
- Undertaking routine patching and administrative tasks;
- Supporting enterprise Splunk deployments with data feeds from multiple data centers;
- Integration and functional testing;
- Participating and adhering to change control procedures;
- Supporting and configuring vulnerability scanning across a large environment.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Professional memberships and certifications (SANS, ISACA, Offensive Security) considered desirable;
- A solid understanding of endpoint protection and application whitelisting;
- Demonstrated experience with security tooling such as Splunk and Tenable;
- Experience with change control and ITL framework;
- Interest/experience in container and cloud security solutions (Prisma Cloud, Tanium).
About You
You are an experienced security engineer within a complex, regulated environment, and have knowledge and interest in a broad range of systems and enterprise security architecture.
Benefits
This role offers a competitive salary of AU$120,000 - AU$150,000 per annum, depending on experience. Leidos also provides 12 weeks paid parental leave, flexible work practices, discounted health insurance, novated leasing, and more.
