Role Overview

Working with Niche will immerse you in intricate cultural heritage projects, encompassing the design and execution of fieldwork, leading technical teams, preparing comprehensive reports, and providing in-depth technical and regulatory guidance on Aboriginal cultural heritage issues. Recent projects include linear infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives, offering EIS for pumped hydro, battery storage, and wind farm developments.

This position involves collaboration with our skilled Heritage team, clients, Aboriginal representatives, and communities. You will have the chance to mentor and support your colleagues while managing a small team directly.

This role is ideal for individuals seeking a company dedicated to sustainable growth and a position that enhances their technical expertise in cultural heritage management.

Ideal Candidate Profile

This position is best suited for someone who is an emerging or established leader with over 12 years of experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage consulting within the Queensland context.

We are specifically looking for candidates who possess:

A degree or postgraduate qualification focused on Australian archaeology, anthropology, or cultural heritage management. Significant experience working under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003. Familiarity with Commonwealth heritage laws, other Queensland regulations including the Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, and local heritage planning requirements. A reputation for conducting high-quality, ethical cultural heritage assessments while maintaining positive relationships with Aboriginal communities. Strong people management and emotional intelligence skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively, engage others, influence culture, and provide clear direction. The capability to manage complex projects from inception to completion. A well-developed ability to interpret and explain intricate technical issues to various stakeholders. Excellent experience in liaising with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients and Aboriginal community representatives. Connections within the Queensland cultural heritage industry and the ability to conduct business development activities professionally to support the broader Heritage team.

This role reports to Morgan Disspain , who leads Niche's Heritage Team for NSW & QLD. Morgan has over 14 years of experience in cultural heritage, encompassing both academic and consulting roles, with extensive expertise in cultural heritage management across multiple Australian states and territories.
