Carbon Management Expert

This is a role that provides project management, technical lead and client engagement services to assist clients with their carbon accounting needs, offset strategies, and business development. The work will focus on climate change mitigation through greenhouse gas emissions reduction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project management and technical leadership for carbon consulting projects involving Climate Active, Science-Based Targets, National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting, and related activities.
  • Accurate assessment of an organisation's carbon footprint by developing comprehensive Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions inventories.
  • Maintenance and development of databases containing carbon emissions intensity factors and metrics for various sources of Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Definition and implementation of relevant boundaries for carbon inventories and emissions sources.
  • Client engagement and communication through workshops, meetings, webinars, etc., for data collection, boundary setting, offset planning, and stakeholder liaison.
  • Liaison with government agencies, standards organisations, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with carbon accounting methodologies, certification, and verification requirements.
  • Development of effective carbon offset and abatement strategies tailored to clients' needs.
  • Timely delivery of high-quality technical solutions to extract, process, and present customer data.
  • Analysis of sustainability data and adherence to the highest industry standards in inventory analysis.
  • Management of multiple client projects concurrently while maintaining excellent client relationships.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years' experience in carbon management or a related field.
  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate greenhouse gas protocols (including the Scope 3 Standard) and other relevant carbon accounting standards.
  • Familiarity with Climate Active, Science-Based Targets, and National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting frameworks.
  • Experience in carbon accounting, sustainability initiatives, and carbon inventory frameworks.
  • Strong analytical background and quantitative skills.
  • Consulting and client management experience, as well as expertise in managing carbon consulting projects.
  • Broad understanding of energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, and industrial/commercial sector abatement opportunities.
  • Data analysis tool development and management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Accreditation or certification in carbon accounting is desired but not required; ongoing professional development is essential in this rapidly evolving field.
