An exciting career opportunity awaits at ASC, a leading organization in the submarine industry.

As a skilled tradesperson, you will have the chance to undertake world-leading training in the United States, setting you up for a secure career back home in the nuclear-powered submarine program.

During the 24-30 month assignment, you will receive on-the-job training combined with instructor-led classroom training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and other locations throughout the USA.

Upon completion, you will work with various materials to recover internal fit-out of the submarine, including reupholstering seats, table covers, and navy racks, as well as refurbishing surfaces and fabricating containment canopies and other associated requirements.

This work will be carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.

After your deployment, you will return to Western Australia to plan, manage, and perform in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines.

This is a civilian role, and recruitment processes will differ from those for Active Service Defence recruitment.

About the Role:

  • Removal and fit-out of internal fixtures in the submarine.
  • Measuring, laying, and cutting fabric materials.
  • Reupholstering of chairs, table covers, door trims, navy racks, etc.
  • Fabricating bespoke items such as tool bags, containment canopies, nuclear glove bags, and other requirements.
  • Using various hand and power tools.
  • Following strict OH&S procedures.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Australian accredited trade qualification.
  • Proven ability to be flexible and an eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Australian Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance.
