Job DescriptionThe role of Telecommunications Rigger involves the upgrading and modification of existing wireless telecommunications sites, including mobile and broadcast systems. This includes performing work at heights and installing mobile/broadcast antenna systems, Remote Radio Units (RRUs), feeders, and Microwave Links. Additionally, the installation and erection of steelwork, monopoles, towers, etc., as required are key responsibilities.Responsibilities:
  • Upgrading and modifying existing wireless telecommunications sites, including mobile and broadcast systems.
  • Performing work at heights and installing mobile/broadcast antenna systems, Remote Radio Units (RRUs), feeders, and Microwave Links.
  • Installing and erecting steelwork, monopoles, towers, etc., as required.
  • Conducting PIM testing, sweep testing, distance to fault analysis, terminating feeders, bird-proofing, and waterproofing connectors.
  • Installing and maintaining antenna and feeder cables on monopoles and towers.
  • Checking, maintaining, and operating equipment in compliance with safety, efficiency, and calibration procedures.
  • Undertaking rigging and general tasks as assigned by the company, including site constructibility inspections that may involve identifying gaps and scope changes.
Requirements for Success:
  • Proven experience as a telecommunications rigger.
  • Possession of a current Certificate in Rigging (Basic minimum).
  • Familiarity with earthing requirements.
  • Working at heights certification and Tower Rescue certification, with the ability to comfortably operate at heights regularly (e.g., climbing up to 80 meters).
  • Previous climbing experience is essential.
  • Solid knowledge of telecommunication rigging techniques and adherence to best practices.
  • RadHaz EME Awareness.
  • MR or HR License preferred.
Additional Responsibilities for Wireless Technicians:
  • Understanding scope on build drawings and site survey findings.
  • Install and maintain WCDMA/LTE/4G/5G/NBN technologies.
  • Install radio base stations, terminating Hybriflex Cables and Coaxial feeder cables/tails, earthing, cable trays, diplexers, combiners.
  • Upgrade or install DC power rack systems including rectifiers, batteries and load testing.
  • Ability to configure and capture status for HOP's.
  • Commissioning and integration of RBS/BTS into network.
  • Conduct PIM, VSWR and sweep and fibre testing.
  • Troubleshoot, replace defective equipment and monitor site performance.
  • Install and commission microwave indoor and outdoor units.
  • Software installation, testing and commissioning of sites.
  • Build and maintain collaborative business relationships with client support personnel.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with team and business staff.
Requirements for Wireless Technicians:
  • Proven experience as a wireless technician.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.
  • ACMA License (Open Cabling Ticket), Current First Aid, and CPR Certificates.
  • Construction White Card, RF/EME Awareness, Working at Heights knowledge.
  • Experience in wireless telecommunications.
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
  • Understanding of quality control, HSE practices, SWMS, JHA's, and MOP's.
  • Certificate in Telecommunications.
