The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local is a support service for people aged 26 years and over who experience mental health challenges, including co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs.

As our new AOD Carer Peer Worker, you will draw on your personal experience of supporting a loved one through both mental health and AOD-related challenges to provide empathetic support to others.

This is an opportunity to shape a more compassionate system where carers are seen, heard and empowered.

About the Opportunity

This is a unique position that combines peer support with community development principles.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working alongside fellow peer workers, clinicians and community partners.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-on-one peer support to carers
  • Facilitating group sessions and coordinating peer-led network meetings
  • Building resilience and connection within communities
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A certificate IV or Diploma in Mental Health, AOD or related tertiary qualification in social science
  • Personal experience of supporting a person with a mental illness, or psychological distress and recovery in addition to substance use or dependence
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
