Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated mental health professional to join our multidisciplinary team at the River Unit, a unique voluntary eight-bed forensic mental health unit.

About The Position:

  • To provide comprehensive consultation, liaison, and negotiation with young people, families/carers, and other members of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To deliver evidence-based nursing care to young people in custody across a 24/7 rotating roster.
  • To provide specialist mental health nursing interventions and effectively manage critical incidents and emergency situations.
  • To collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based interventions.
  • To deliver mental health nursing care from a Strengths-Based, Recovery-Focused framework.
  • To engage in one-to-one therapeutic work, clinical practice, advocacy, group facilitation, and mentorship/preceptorship.

Your Skills and Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent qualification, or a Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
  • Ongoing studies towards a post-graduate qualification in Mental Health if this has not already been achieved.
  • A minimum of 12-24 months experience in an acute or subacute inpatient setting, preferably a graduate/transition and post graduate year.
  • The ability to deliver personalized psycho-social care beyond the traditional medical model to facilitate recovery of young people.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the recovery approach in mental health treatment and support, with a focus on working collaboratively with consumers and families/carers to promote self-determination and enable progress towards reaching consumers' personal recovery goals.
