About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Support Worker to join our team at Life Without Barriers. As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and nurturing environment for children and young people who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering personalized support and guidance to young people
  • Fostering the development of independent life skills
  • Assisting with emotional regulation and providing opportunities for re-engagement in education and community activities

To be successful in this role, you will have prior experience working with children and young people, as well as a comprehensive understanding of childhood trauma and its impacts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans
  • Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks
  • Support the young person's interests
  • Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes
  • Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally
  • Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn how to look after themselves
  • Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately
  • Medication administration (when required)
  • Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping
Requirements
  • Certificate IV in Youth Work, Mental Health, or relevant qualification (or willing to obtain)
  • Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern
  • Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders
  • Demonstrate confidentiality and have strong understanding of professional boundaries
  • Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds
  • A current Provide First Aid Certificate
  • A current Drivers Licence
