Job Title: Bariatric Surgery Registry Executive Officer

Alfred Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bariatric Surgery Registry Executive Officer to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of our Bariatric Surgery Registry, overseeing research activities, and providing strategic and operational advice to our Head of School, Clinical Director, and Steering Committee.

About the Role

The Bariatric Surgery Registry Executive Officer will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring policy and procedures are compliant with good registry practice, relevant legislation, and identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing necessary changes
  • Overseeing regular audits of data quality and seeking ways to improve processes
  • Regularly reviewing the core outputs of the registry and identifying performance that might be considered outlying and managing escalations according to registry policy
  • Tracking the expenditure of the BSR against budget and reporting on finance to the Director, Steering Committee, and Commonwealth
  • Making decisions on expenditure required for the day-to-day running of the BSR
  • Maintaining engagement with key stakeholders, including the Commonwealth, state jurisdictions, funders, ANZMOSS, and IFSO
  • Managing the production of outward-facing reporting of the Registry, including progress reports and annual reports, by working with the Director to oversee the design and delivery of these reports
  • Designing quality-related reporting of the Registry, including individual surgeon reports, hospital reports, and ad-hoc reporting, by working with the Operations Manager to ensure they are delivered
  • Working with the Director to develop a broad funding base, including governments, device manufacturers, private insurers, and Medical Defence Organisations (MDOs), and managing contract and deliverables
  • Working with the Director to develop a funding stream for research, including competitive grants, philanthropic organisations, MDOs, and industry, and managing contract and deliverables
  • Staying abreast of developments, activities, and protocols in the area of registry science through liaison with other registry staff in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences, and remaining up-to-date with relevant literature and attending relevant meetings and seminars
  • Liaising with the Clinical Lead NZ to ensure consistent work practices across both countries
  • Providing effective day-to-day staff supervision with the goal of maintaining a happy and productive workplace
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual with:

  • A research higher degree or equivalent
  • Extensive project management experience and proven management expertise
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated extensive and broad experience in leading, motivating, and developing a team of professionals to deliver service excellence and continuous improvement
  • Outstanding research, analytical, and consulting skills, including the ability to devise innovative solutions to complex issues
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to provide authoritative advice and to manage relationships, influence, and negotiate at senior levels within and outside the University
  • Superior planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and delegate tasks to achieve a substantial agenda within agreed timeframes and to required standards
  • Proven, significant ability to develop and implement policy
  • Experience working as part of a leadership team, contributing to setting strategic direction, undertaking strategic planning, providing advice, and implementing initiatives to deliver on objectives
  • Experience in and understanding of the healthcare industry, Human Research Ethics Committees, and the higher education sector
