Job Description

This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and involves overseeing the Policy and Advocacy Team in implementing strategic policy and advocacy work.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing organisational goals and strategy recommendations, reporting to the CEO and Board, and undertaking regular planning sessions.

  • Develop engagement frameworks and regularly consult members to influence policy strategy and submissions.
  • Prepare letters, media pieces, submissions, lobbying documents and other relevant documents for campaigns and their spokespeople.
  • Work with other managers to plan and deliver events and activities that engage members with representation and advocacy.
  • Manage staff and oversee campaign and policy work.
  • Create high-level operational project plans that drive the success of the organisation's Strategic Plan.
  • Manage and respond to submissions at all government levels.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • A degree and subsequent relevant experience of at least 4 years in public policy, social policy, sociology or related fields.
  • Leadership skills in similar organisations.
  • Experience managing staff and overseeing campaign and policy work.
  • Highly developed project management skills and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • An understanding of the broader student political landscape and its key advocacy areas.
  • Ability to create high-level operational project plans.
