Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Legal Practitioner to join our team in Toowoomba. As a Legal Practitioner - Family & Civil Law Specialist, you will have the opportunity to provide expert casework assistance and information directly to clients, and to external stakeholders about client matters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-level client services in Family and Civil Law proceedings, including casework relating to Child Protection and Domestic Violence Applications, and Civil Litigation generally.
- Assist in the development of Court Support/Field Officers' and other legal staff members' training/education.
- Work collaboratively with the Principal Legal Officer and the Directors of Law (Family and Civil) to provide expert advice and guidance.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of key legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law and Civil Law.
- Essential Criteria:
- Alignment to the values and vision of Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Legal Service.
- Admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland or holder of (or eligibility for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to empathetically convey sound information or advice.
- Experience (or an in-depth understanding) of both high-level client services in Family and Civil Law proceedings.
- Confidence in and knowledge of legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law and Civil Law.
- Desirable Criteria:
- Ability to use Microsoft Office in a Windows networked environment.
- Minimum two (2) years post-admission experience.
- Ability to assist the Regional Manager on duty lawyer matters during periods of demand.
