Transforming Global Communications as a Systems Engineer

We are seeking an exceptional Systems Engineer to join our Connect division in Sydney, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager – Infrastructure. As part of the Global Infrastructure team, you will contribute to delivering new products and capabilities for our customers worldwide.

Your primary focus will be on developing and deploying systems, platforms, and infrastructure for Symbio's voice and data networks globally. This includes driving infrastructure automation, ensuring deployments across development and production environments are resilient and repeatable.

You will work closely within your team and with other Delivery, Software, and Infrastructure teams to deliver systems and services. A key responsibility will be to ensure we understand the health of our systems at any point in time, reducing outages and improving overall system reliability.

To achieve this, you will advocate for fit-for-purpose solutions and enhance the way we work by ensuring our systems are healthy and resilient, with best practice observability and monitoring. This may involve modernizing our tech stack, promoting efficient processes, and implementing effective tools and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable systems and infrastructure
  • Drive infrastructure automation and efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver systems and services
  • Ensure system health and reliability through monitoring and observability
  • Maintain and improve existing infrastructure and systems
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in systems or infrastructure engineering in a Telco/ISP/Large enterprise
  • Deep technical knowledge of on-premise infrastructure (compute & storage, virtualization)
  • Experience in on-premise systems management (installing, configuring, and maintaining bare metal and virtualized systems)
  • Strong understanding of VMware and cloud management systems (e.g., Openstack)
  • Good understanding of KVM
  • Strong understanding of Linux (Redhat/CentOS) Systems (Windows a desirable bonus)
  • Strong understanding of bash/shell scripting
  • Experience with DNS, NTP
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex technical issues
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in CI/CD tools, pipelines, and version control (e.g., Gitlab)
  • Experience in automating manual processes using tools like Terraform, Ansible, etc. (Puppet is a bonus)
  • Exposure to public cloud environment/technologies (e.g., AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, ELB/ALB)
  • Scripting experience using Python, as well as experience with data serialization languages (JSON, YAML)
  • Understanding of networking architecture and internet protocols
  • Understanding of VoIP technologies and protocols
  • Proven experience in systems and network design and development
