Education Assistant Role Overview

This is a dynamic teaching position within a primary school setting, focused on supporting students with diverse learning needs.

  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, parents, staff, and other professionals.
Main Responsibilities
  1. Supporting Student Learning: Assist in preparing materials and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with additional needs.
  2. Fostering Positive Interactions: Promote student dignity, independence, self-esteem, and active participation in learning through effective classroom management strategies.
  3. Pastoral Care: Provide emotional support to ensure students are well-prepared for learning, addressing social issues impacting young children.
  4. Collaboration: Work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing expertise to enhance student outcomes.
  5. Professional Development: Maintain knowledge of child development and early intervention strategies to provide high-quality support.
Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively when required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • A commitment to pastoral care and understanding of social issues impacting young children.
  • Ability to maintain discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times.
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain.
  • National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain.
  • Cert IV Education Assistant (Special Needs) or related qualification and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of child development and early intervention strategies.
  • Experience supporting children with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities or additional behavioural, social, or emotional needs.
