Make a Meaningful Difference

As a Sexual Abuse Counsellor, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people who have experienced abuse or are engaging in problematic sexual behavior.

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in counselling, social work or behavioural science from a recognized tertiary institution and have prior experience in a similar role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions to children and young people who have experienced abuse or are engaging in problematic sexual behavior
  • Assist non-offending family members and carers who have been referred from the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs
  • Develop and implement individual case plans that take into account the unique needs of each child, young person and their family/carers
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Possession of a degree in counselling, social work or behavioural science from a recognized tertiary institution
  • Eligibility for registration or membership with a recognized professional body such as AASW, APS, ACA or PACFA
  • Ability to articulate knowledge of current practice and theories of working effectively with children and young people who have experienced abuse
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in play therapy models
  • High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication and advocacy skills
