Role Overview
A dedicated Domestic Violence Specialist is required to provide comprehensive support services to individuals and families affected by domestic and family violence. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clients, community stakeholders, and internal teams to deliver high-quality service delivery.
About the RoleThe Domestic Violence Practitioner will be responsible for working across various state-funded domestic violence programs, providing intake, counseling, court support, and group work to clients who have experienced domestic and family violence.
This role may involve collaborating with local authorities to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting victims of domestic violence. The practitioner will utilize a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to empower clients and promote their safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough client intakes, including risk assessments and safety planning to identify client needs and develop effective support strategies.
- Deliver specialized domestic and family violence counseling, psychoeducation, and group work to equip clients with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate challenging situations.
- Support clients attending court proceedings related to domestic and family violence matters, ensuring they receive informed guidance and representation.
- Collaborate with clients to set and achieve goals, increasing their autonomy, agency, and overall well-being.
- Advocate on behalf of clients experiencing violence and abuse, making referrals as necessary and identifying potential safety upgrades or other forms of practical assistance.
- Prioritize building relationships with local stakeholders, such as law enforcement, child protection agencies, corrections departments, and housing organizations, to foster a collaborative environment.
- Hold tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, and maintain membership with relevant professional associations (e.g., Australian Psychological Society, Australian Association of Social Workers).
- Hold a valid Working with Children Check and provide evidence of Australian work rights.
- Obtain a current Police Check within three months of commencing employment.
- Hold a valid driver's license.
