About this position:

Job Overview

This is a role of great trust and responsibility, requiring the highest levels of personal integrity and ethical conduct.

As a Detainee Services Officer, you will be accountable for ensuring the safety, dignity, and security of detainees in our care.

You will work closely with other professionals to provide support and guidance to detainees, promoting their well-being and rehabilitation.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated high levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour, sound fitness level, and an understanding of the needs of people from different ethnic, cultural, and lifestyle backgrounds.

They will possess clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal), natural ability to influence and negotiate in challenging situations, as well as demonstrate high levels of resilience.

Flexibility in relation to availability to work as directed, undertaking various shifts, rotational shift patterns, and hours as required by the centre is essential.

A strong level of computer literacy is also desirable.

Maintaining a strong desire for learning and development is crucial for success in this role.

The role involves working in a residential setting on Christmas Island, which is a remote location. Candidates will be required to remain on island for periods of up to 6 months. Free accommodation, meals, and transport are provided.
