We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take on a permanent position within a prominent national heavy engineering design company. This role is ideal for a mid to senior-level engineer who is eager to engage with clients and oversee a team of engineers and design draftspeople.

  • Eligibility: Candidates must possess Australian citizenship and have a minimum of 10 years of experience in project and design engineering.
  • Compensation: Salary range is $115,000 - $130,000.
  • Location: Newcastle region.

Key Responsibilities:

Your typical day will involve:

  • Interpreting procurement specifications and functional requirements to drive product development.
  • Participating in the design and manufacturing of specialized vehicles, including but not limited to ambulances and emergency vehicles.
  • Contributing across all stages of the project lifecycle, from tendering and design to manufacturing and commissioning.
  • Providing ongoing production support and conducting quality checks on in-house fabrication.
  • Preparing General Assessments (GA's), Bills of Manufacture (BOM's), and manufacturing drawings for procurement and fabrication teams.
  • Adding value during the prototyping phase, including jig making and process optimization.
  • Engaging in continuous research and development throughout the design process.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Attending weekly internal and client meetings.
  • Working closely with other engineering disciplines and mentors.

Potential Contributions:

You may find yourself:

  • Creating unique prototypes based on customer specifications while integrating new technologies and materials.
  • Assisting in the preparation of tenders for various vehicle types, including technical responses and detailed drawings.
  • Providing production support and developing operation and service manuals, while collaborating with the Quality department and other engineering teams to refine the Design Engineering BOS process.

Project Scope:

The projects will encompass extensive sheet metal fabrication, mechanical and electrical installations, and the use of machined components and profile plates. Once projects transition from design and prototyping, there will be ample opportunities for involvement in production support, estimating, and verification testing to ensure product performance.
