Principal DevOps Engineer

Avetta is seeking a highly skilled Principal DevOps Engineer to join our team in Sydney or Newcastle, Australia. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will be responsible for shaping the strategy and ensuring the uptime and reliability of our global, customer-facing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement secure, scalable, and predictable infrastructure solutions.
- Oversee and support both production and development environments.
- Implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines using tools such as Git Hub Actions, Jenkins, and Git.
- Manage large-scale environments via tools like Salt Stack and Terraform.
- Ensure high system availability and optimize performance.
- Administer enterprise-level backups and disaster recovery protocols, including encryption.
- Administer DNS, NAT, internet gateways, and maintain microservices architectures.
- Deep understanding of RESTful APIs and HTTP protocols.
- Act as a first responder to resolve critical production issues on a global SaaS platform.
- Automate real-time monitoring systems to maintain 99.95% uptime.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through automation and infrastructure reuse.
- Utilize Docker and Kubernetes to support scalable, shared infrastructure.
- Continuously explore and propose new technologies to enhance infrastructure, security, and performance.
- Guide and mentor a team of DevOps Engineers to achieve operational goals.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Google Cloud DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Certified DevOps Engineer Expert).
- 7+ years of experience in a Senior DevOps role with hands-on DevOps experience with expertise in CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- 5+ years of experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, Cloud Formation).
- 3+ years in a leadership or technical lead role.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and Go.
- Expertise in container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and networking tools (HAProxy, ALB).
- Strong knowledge of automation/configuration tools like Salt Stack and Terraform.
- Proven ability to manage teams and lead DevOps initiatives.
- Candidates must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents without any restrictions to work in Australia and must be located near Avetta's Sydney or Newcastle offices for in-person collaboration.
