We are seeking a highly skilled Ecological Consultant to join our team at Wedgetail Project Consulting in New South Wales. As an employee-owned environmental consultancy, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional projects and providing trusted advice to our clients.

As an Ecologist with us, you will be responsible for conducting field surveys and preparing reports on flora and fauna assessments, as well as having a thorough understanding of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM). You will also be required to prepare various environmental assessment and management reports, including Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports (BSSARs), Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs), Flora and Fauna Assessment Reports, Vegetation Management Plans (VMP), and Biodiversity Management Plans.

Your key responsibilities will include undertaking flora surveys throughout New South Wales, verifying and mapping threatened ecological communities, regional ecosystems, vegetation communities, threatened species, and biosecurity species. You will also maintain relationships with clients and regulatory agencies, and lead the delivery of proposals and technical reports for clients.

To be successful in this role, you will require tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Environmental Science, or Natural Resource Management. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise reports and correspondence. Additionally, you should have experience in classification and mapping of vegetation communities using the NSW BioNet Vegetation Classification, knowledge of threatened fauna, their habitat, and management, and BAM accreditation.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Environmental Science, or Natural Resource Management;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise reports and correspondence;
  • Experience in classification and mapping of vegetation communities using the NSW BioNet Vegetation Classification;
  • Knowledge of threatened fauna, their habitat, and management;
  • BAM accreditation;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • NSW driver's licence;
  • Willingness to travel, sometimes remotely, to perform duties as required by fieldwork.

About the Role

  • Field survey and subsequent report preparation for a variety of flora and fauna assessments;
  • Thorough understanding of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM);
  • Preparation of a variety of environmental assessment and management reports, including Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports (BSSARs), Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs), Flora and Fauna Assessment Reports, Vegetation Management Plans (VMP), and Biodiversity Management Plans;
