Casualty Underwriter Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Casualty Underwriter to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with our Underwriters in the region, supporting them in their activities associated with renewals, maintenance of accounts and on models and systems.
The role is responsible for underwriting under guidance, preparing individual cases for pricing and modeling, liaising with Actuaries to deliver technical pricing to Underwriters, using modelling systems to aid the underwriting process, conducting research as requested by Underwriters, conducting pre-underwriting for renewals, handling endorsements on active business, conducting specific analyses for new business, and following up on renewals.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, able to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze and solve complex problems in order to make key business decisions. They will also possess industry knowledge, understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
Essential Responsibilities
- Underwrite risks within established limits, preparing individual cases for pricing and modeling.
- Liaise with Actuaries to deliver technical pricing to Underwriters.
- Use modelling systems to aid the underwriting process.
- Conduct research as requested by Underwriters.
- Conduct pre-underwriting for renewals, handle endorsements on active business, conduct specific analyses for new business, and follow up on renewals.
- Prepare monthly reports.
- Develop an internal network for facilitating the transfer of information and data between functions and departments in order to service the requirements of the Underwriters and clients.
- Assist the business group in maintaining and developing their book of business while developing the necessary skill sets and defined authority to accept risk in underwriting of a profitable account.
- Understand the strategy and financial targets of AXA XL Insurance and those applicable to the business unit.
- Attend internal and external meetings with clients and brokers.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the relevant class of business.
- Able to perform tasks according to established procedures, with some ability to exercise discretion.
- Analytical Skills - Visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze and solve complex problems in order to make key business decisions.
- Strategy and Planning - Make underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plan and deliver results.
- Industry Knowledge - Understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
- Marketing – Effectively plan for sales and business development.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position is estimated to be around $85,000 per annum, plus additional benefits and bonuses.
