Mental Health Practitioner

The State Government of Victoria, Australia is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Practitioner to join our team in a government secondary school campus. As a key member of the school community, you will play a vital role in enhancing mental health prevention and promotion activities, providing early intervention services, and coordinating supports for students with complex needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to work collaboratively with the school community, including teachers, students, and parents, to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. You will have the autonomy to develop and implement professional support programs, provide advice and professional learning to others, and work collaboratively with regional mental health service providers and other health professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to whole-school health and wellbeing plans, building the capability of teaching staff and school leadership to address matters relating to student mental health and wellbeing.
- Provide early intervention services, including short-term counselling, for individual students and groups identified as at-risk and/or experiencing or demonstrating mild to moderate mental health concerns.
- Coordinate supports for students with complex needs, including proactively working with regions, local mental health service providers, and other health professionals to engage further support as required.
- Develop and implement evidence-based intervention strategies for students with complex needs, collaborating with families, other professionals, and agencies when appropriate to effectively manage risk.
- Liaise with other department areas and external service providers to provide appropriate support to students.
- Highly developed communication, networking, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people.
- Clear understanding of legislative requirements regarding privacy of health information.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the school community, including teachers, students, and parents.
- Highly developed problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound judgments.
