This is a permanent full-time role within the Speech and Language Therapy Team, focused on delivering effective clinical support to children and families accessing our services.
About the Role:
The ideal candidate will have experience working in the field of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders, with specialist skills relating to these areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Support the development of the Speech and Language Therapy pathway within the Autism Diagnostic service, and contribute to the creation of new intervention pathways.
- Undertake specialist assessments of communication, including informal and formal standardized evaluations.
- Communicate assessment results and therapeutic findings with the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide clinical support to individuals and groups, offering advice, resources, strategies, and programs as necessary, using specialist skills and autism-specific approaches where required.
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:
- A Speech and Language Therapy degree
- Registration with the Health Professions Council
- Postgraduate training or continuing professional development in the area of Autism
- At least 3 years of post-registration experience, preferably with a specialist client group
- Experience working with children with autism and/or complex needs/learning disabilities
- Experience with Autism-specific approaches such as social stories, TEACCH, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction
- Experience undertaking specialist assessments of communication
- Formulation and implementation of appropriate interventions/strategies
- Experience working with children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Production of generic and individual communication resources, including AAC
- Experience delivering training to various audiences
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience working with families
- Knowledge of a range of Neurodevelopmental disorders
- Understanding of evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of statutory/mandatory training requirements
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, i.e. Children's Act 2004, Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Knowledge of current safeguarding and child protection legislation and practice
- Knowledge of Information Governance Standards
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
- Knowledge of SEND agenda and Education Health Care Plans
Excellent teamwork and communication skills are essential for this role.
