About the Role

The Umpiring Coordinator - North role is a critical position within our organization, responsible for delivering on our umpiring strategy in northern Tasmania. This includes recruiting and developing umpires, providing coaching and support, and ensuring a clear pathway for aspiring umpires in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver on AFL Tasmania's umpiring strategy in northern Tasmania, focusing on growing umpiring and ensuring a clear pathway for aspiring umpires.
  • Deliver Women & Girls Action Plan initiatives in the Northern region.
  • Appoint and support umpire coaches across all three disciplines.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including come and try days, school-based activities, and playing club-based activities.
  • Work closely with local associations to ensure a culture of continuous improvement in umpiring.
  • Coordinate the appointment and payment of umpires in-season.
  • Ensure the northern region engages with the umpire development pathway through providing opportunities for talented umpires.
  • Provide dedicated support for the retention of umpires within the local market, including reward and recognition initiatives.
  • Deliver other operational requirements, including apparel, equipment management, and ground bookings, in collaboration with AFL Tasmania staff and umpiring bodies.

Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to learn and contribute innovative ideas.Engaging interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.Ability to work outside core business hours and travel to regional areas as required.Ability to work effectively unsupervised while a member of a team.A track record of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing projects to ensure timely delivery.Proficient problem-solving skills and proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft applications.Experience working with children and young people and a current Working with Vulnerable Children Check.Experience volunteering or working with volunteers and a sound knowledge of AFL or other relevant sporting environments.Strong computer literacy and qualifications in Sports Coaching / Management, Recreation, Education, or equivalent depth of experience.Our Culture
