About the Role

We are seeking a Peer Support Worker to join our team at Mission Australia in Broken Hill. As a Peer Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals living with mental illness, providing emotional support, and connecting them to meaningful activities and networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Make initial contact with clients and engage participants in the program
  • Develop trusting and professional relationships with clients
  • Learn about each participant's interests and relationships to create a tailored approach
  • Provide emotional support to participants by harnessing your own lived experience
  • Help connect participants to meaningful activities and networks
  • Co-facilitate and collaborate in planning peer-based groups
  • Ensure documentation is completed and updated in line with Mission Australia protocols
Requirements
  • Personal lived experience of mental ill health and recovery
  • Ability to listen and get to know people and find common ground
  • Active listening skills without judgment
  • Ability to inspire hope and understand self-care
  • Qualification in Mental Health or willingness to work towards obtaining Cert IV in Mental Health Peer Work
  • Current NSW driver's licence
