Operational Risk Lead

We are seeking an experienced Operational Risk professional to drive strategic uplift for a leading financial institution.

  • The ideal candidate will have expertise in second-line risk management, with a strong working knowledge of regulatory frameworks and risk governance.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative team culture and contribute to enterprise-wide risk reform. Reporting directly to the CRO, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening risk maturity and embedding best practices.

About the Role

As an Operational Risk Manager, you will lead the implementation and ongoing enhancement of our Operational Risk Management Framework. This includes facilitating Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), overseeing third-party risk management, and managing operational incident investigations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain effective risk mitigation strategies to minimize exposure to operational risks.
  2. Collaborate closely with Compliance, Audit, and ICT Risk to ensure a holistic view of risk across the organization.
  3. Provide oversight for change initiatives, including projects and technology changes, to identify potential risks and develop mitigating controls.
  4. Contribute to operational risk reporting, KRI development, and Board updates to ensure senior stakeholders are informed on risk posture.
  5. Deliver training to uplift awareness and embed risk culture across the business.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in second-line Operational Risk within a regulated entity.
  • Strong working knowledge of APRA standards (CPS 230 essential).
  • Proven capability across RCSA, third-party risk, incident management, and change risk oversight.
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with risk systems and tools (Excel a must; Power BI or SQL a plus).
