Commercial Director for Intermodal Operations

At Pacific National, we are seeking a seasoned commercial leader to drive our intermodal business forward. As the Head of Commercial, Sales & Customer - Intermodal, you will be responsible for shaping the future of our commercial capabilities and delivering exceptional value to our customers.
About UsPacific National is the largest private provider of diversified rail freight services in Australia. Our intermodal business is Australia's leading provider of long-distance rail transport services for containerised freight. We haul a variety of freight including coal, steel, and bulk commodities that keep the region's economy running.
The RoleWe are looking for a results-driven professional to step into this pivotal role. As the Head of Commercial, Sales & Customer - Intermodal, your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, Structuring & Pricing Solutions: Leverage your deep understanding of customer needs and business requirements to create, price, and structure competitive solutions.
- Negotiating and Closing the Deal: Develop & Lead effective negotiation strategies, ensuring accurate pricing and terms.
- Market Intelligence: Assessing market gaps, identifying new opportunities and policies that may impact the business and its customers.
- Product Management: Driving the development and management of a portfolio of products and services to optimise financial performance.
- Financial Management: Overseeing the financial performance of the intermodal product portfolio.
- Customer Engagement & Relationship Management: Cultivating strong relationships with key customers, delivering tailored solutions that enhance satisfaction and retention.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Influence: Lead and develop a high-performing commercial and sales team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
- Proven experience in a senior commercial role, ideally within the intermodal or transportation industry.
- Strong expertise in pricing, contract negotiations, and solution design.
- In-depth knowledge of market trends, customer needs, and financial management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams, with a focus on accountability, collaboration, innovation and the ability to drive change.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and influence key stakeholders at all levels.
