Role Description

The Aboriginal Family Support Worker provides culturally safe case management advocacy, liaison, support and referral services to children aged 8 to 17 years old, and their families, referred to Congress' Back on Track (BoT) Program. The program has a focus on working with young people and their families on criminal diversion, restorative justice, reengagement with education and training, and alternatives to youth detention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally safe case management advocacy, liaison, support and referral services to children and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with Social Workers and a youth focused Psychologist under a bi-cultural pair model.
  • Engage with a diversity of Aboriginal families across different language groups.
  • Provide support to vulnerable families with young children and understand child development and the impact of trauma on children including neglect.
  • Use a computer for data entry and case note recording.
  • Hold a current NT Drivers Licence or be able to obtain one.

Requirements

  • Identify as an Aboriginal person and be recognised and accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community.
  • Hold a qualification (Cert III or above) and experience in one or more of the following areas – family support, early childhood, education, or health or working towards qualification.
  • Have knowledge of the local Aboriginal community.
