Job Title:

Peer Support Worker

A dynamic and empathetic individual is required to work with mental health consumers in a supportive role.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting consumers to transition from an acute inpatient admission back into their community. This involves providing tailored assertive follow-up care to consumers recently discharged from hospital for up to 6 weeks post-discharge.

This role requires the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with mental health service consumers, as well as being able to communicate supportively and confidently with mental health service providers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing peer support to mental health consumers
  • Assisting consumers to develop skills and strategies for managing their mental health
  • Working closely with mental health professionals to ensure high-quality care
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Minimum Qualification Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (consumer) or willingness to obtain same within 12 months of appointment
  • Personal lived experience of being a consumer of a mental health service
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of recovery and trauma-informed care
