About the Role

Solestial, Inc. is a leading solar energy company that specializes in space-based solar power solutions. We are seeking a highly skilled Laser Processing Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of novel solar module processing tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with solar module engineers to design and develop laser processing tools from concept to completion.
  • Work on the development of peripheral laser equipment and mechanical systems necessary for cell or module production.
  • Design and implement tooling and process requirements in CAD drawings.
  • Fabricate and start up tools, develop process recipes, and follow company documentation requirements.
  • Assist with other tasks and running production lots as needed.
  • Work closely with solar cell and solar module engineers to improve the performance of solar modules.
  • Transition developed tools and processes to a new mass production line.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train tool operators.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and follow safety requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems (Solid Works or Auto CAD preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to build new processing tools from scratch.
  • Ability to work in a class 1,000 clean room environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, basic data analysis, and presentation, clear communication.
  • Positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. and 1 year of directly related experience.
  • Experience operating laser manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with building linear mechanical systems (3D printers, CNCs, lasers, etc.).
  • Understanding of laser/material interaction.
  • Experience with ultrafast lasers for manufacturing.
  • Experience with laser galvanometers and optics.
  • Experience with Direct Machine Control software.
  • Experience in performing image analysis.
  • Basic understanding of computer programming - C languages, and/or Python.
  • Basic understanding of sensors and data acquisition.
  • Experience performing design of experiments (DOE's) and statistical analysis.
  • Leadership experience.
