We are seeking a highly skilled IT Systems Engineer to join our team as a Portal Platform Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the portal platform that underpins Shell Energy Australia's Retail Customer Portal and Internal Operations Portal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement computer systems and networks to meet Shell Energy's requirements, including analysing system needs, selecting appropriate components, and ensuring seamless integration.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot systems, monitor performance, identify and resolve issues, and ensure optimal functionality.
  • Ensure system security by implementing robust security measures, such as firewalls, antivirus software, and access controls, to protect the organisation's systems and data from unauthorised access, cyber threats, and breaches.
  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on properly using hardware, software, and systems, and assist users with technical issues, respond to support requests, and ensure smooth adoption of new technologies.
  • Document and report on system performance, issues, and resolutions for management review.
  • Stay updated with technology, learn and adapt to new technologies, programming languages, and industry best practices to ensure Shell Energy's systems remain up-to-date and efficient.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, project managers, and business analysts, to align technology solutions with organisational goals and requirements.
Requirements
  • Technical experience designing, implementing, and maintaining IT infrastructure and systems, including servers, networking, storage, virtualisation, and cloud technologies.
  • Security experience implementing and managing security measures to protect IT systems and data from cyber threats, including experience with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), encryption, access controls, and vulnerability management.
  • Programming and scripting skills, including proficiency in scripting languages, configuration management, and task orchestration, and knowledge of programming languages like Java, C++, or JavaScript.
  • Cloud computing experience using cloud platforms, including AWS, and knowledge of cloud services, deployment models, and best practices for cloud architecture and management.
  • Automation and DevOps experience with automation tools, configuration management, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Project management skills, including experience in managing IT projects from inception to completion, including skills in project planning, resource allocation, risk management, and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Technical expertise in software development, system architecture, network infrastructure, database management, security, and cloud computing.
  • Business strategy understanding, including strategic intent and prioritisation to align demand to deliver commercially sound outcomes.
  • Business roadmap knowledge, including Shell Energy architecture roadmap ensuring it is fit for purpose, known and incorporated into delivery roadmaps.
  • System architecture and design principles, including designing scalable, reliable, high-performance systems, and knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architectures, service-oriented architectures (SOA) and event-driven architectures.
  • Networking and infrastructure knowledge, including networking protocols, infrastructure components, virtualisation technologies, and cloud computing platforms.
  • Database management understanding, including database concepts, relational database management systems, NoSQL databases, data modelling, database optimisation, and database security.
  • Security best practices, including familiarity with information security principles, threat modelling, encryption techniques, identity and access management (IAM), security compliance standards, and secure coding practices.
  • DevOps and automation knowledge, including infrastructure as code (IaC), configuration management tools, automated testing, deployment automation, and monitoring/logging solutions.
  • Cloud computing understanding, including cloud service models, cloud deployment models, cloud security considerations, and experience working with major cloud providers.
  • Data analytics and big data technologies, including familiarity with data analytics tools and techniques, big data technologies, data warehousing solutions, and business intelligence (BI) platforms.
  • Regulatory compliance and governance, including knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards for IT governance, compliance, and risk management.
  • Emerging technologies and industry trends, including staying updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovations in the IT landscape.
