About the role

The Chief Technology Strategist, Infrastructure Excellence is accountable for developing a comprehensive technology and infrastructure strategy, optimizing the use of cloud service platforms, and meeting required performance benchmarks for cloud services and on-premises platforms and technologies. This role leads and manages the operations of the team and provides thought leadership and advice on cost optimization for platforms and infrastructure within departments.

This role is also accountable for the team's delivery of technology and infrastructure projects as well as maintaining current platforms and technologies to meet production Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and refresh ageing and out-of-support environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing expert advice on infrastructure cost optimization, contributing to commercial negotiations, contract management, and financial planning to ensure value-for-money outcomes and sustainable service delivery.
  • Providing strong leadership and direction to the team, ensuring timely, budget-conscious, and high-quality delivery of projects, enhancements, and defect resolutions that meet or exceed stakeholder expectations.
  • Maintaining accountability for the performance, availability, and optimization of operational infrastructure across data centres and cloud environments, enabling DevOps practices and ensuring robust network and platform support.
  • Leading the development and continuous refinement of the department's forward technology roadmap, integrating emerging innovations and proactively addressing infrastructure-related risks to ensure resilience and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Ensuring compliance with government, eHealth, and ETB strategies and policies, including adherence to the PDM and other endorsed methodologies.
  • Overseeing the end-to-end delivery of infrastructure and technology initiatives in accordance with the department's Project Delivery Methodology (PDM), ensuring timely, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes that support roadmap execution across both departments.
Qualifications / Specialist Expertise:
  • A relevant IT related degree or qualification will be highly advantageous to this role.
  • Certification in PRINCE 2 or other project management methodology is highly desirable.
  • Agile project experience will be advantageous.
