Role Summary
A classroom teacher is responsible for planning, preparing and delivering programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
To be effective, they must engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve their knowledge and skills, ensuring students are engaged and learning optimally.
As the classroom teacher gains experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom expands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;
- Developing, implementing and evaluating a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school;
- Undertaking additional classroom teaching related duties as assigned by the School Principal;
- Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions;
- Undertaking supervisory duties outside the classroom.
Essential Qualifications:
- Content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students;
- Model exemplary classroom practice and provide mentorship to colleagues in engaging critical reflection of their practice;
- Provide expert advice on content, processes and strategies shaping professional learning at individual and school levels;
- Supervise and train one or more student teachers;
- Assist staff to use data-driven approaches in teaching to achieve targets improving student learning outcomes.
