Casual Librarian Position

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Casual Librarian to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality customer service, work as part of a vibrant library team and be responsible for delivering reader advisory, reference and circulation services to customers across our branches.

  • Deliver exceptional customer service in a public library environment.
  • Provide readers' advisory, reference, and circulation services to customers.
  • Assist with library programs, events, outreach and specialist services.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of junior staff.
  • Maintain and assess library collections, carrying out workroom tasks.
  • Support day-to-day library operations and respond to operational challenges as needed.
About the Role

This casual librarian position involves working with children and requires a valid Working with Children Check. You will also have demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality customer service in a public library environment and have practical experience in readers' advisory, reference services, circulation duties, and participation in public programs.

The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiation and time management skills. They will also have high proficiency in using computers, mobile devices and applications, including Microsoft Office and e-resources. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills are essential, as well as strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with a diverse team and customer base.

Requirements
  • A professional qualification in Library/Information Science or equivalent.
  • Eligibility for Associate Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
  • A valid Working with Children Check.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering high-quality customer service in a public library environment.
  • Practical experience in readers' advisory, reference services, circulation duties, and participation in public programs.
