About Queensland Government Fire Department's Fleet Delivery team, who lead fleet operations and provide repairs and maintenance of heavy vehicles and equipment.

Job Description

We're seeking enthusiastic entry-level school leavers and/or experienced apprentices to complete a four-year heavy vehicle apprenticeship. You'll work in our Fleet Maintenance workshops and teams, receiving personal protective equipment (PPE) kits, quality training and mentoring in all aspects of the heavy vehicle mechanical trade.

You'll learn from highly skilled and experienced team members, with opportunities to experience light vehicle trade. Our comprehensive training program will equip you with knowledge and understanding of repairs, maintenance, manufacture, installation skills in areas of:

  • Light vehicles, heavy vehicles (including automatic and manual transmissions), light fabrication (sheet metal) and auto electrical.

Responsibilities include acquiring knowledge to diagnose potential faults, including electrical for fire appliance fleet and equipment. You'll competently and safely use hand and specialized tools, including electronic diagnostic equipment.

Assessment will be based on Leadership Competencies for Queensland behavioural profiles that link to key accountabilities for this role.

Requirements
  • A valid driver's license and familiarity with both manual and automatic transmission types.
  • Eligibility for enrollment in or progression towards achievement of relevant Trade Certificate in Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
  • Commitment to complete a four-year apprenticeship and obtain nationally recognized qualification.
