Medical Officer Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Medical Officer to join our team and make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Defence members.

As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.

  • Deliver high-quality patient care in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
  • Assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and provide appropriate care to support their health and wellbeing.
  • Provide expert medical advice to senior leaders and colleagues as required.

The ideal candidate will possess current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner, General in Australia, along with relevant postgraduate experience and skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.
  2. Form part of a multidisciplinary team working toward the shared purpose of achieving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of Defence members.
  3. Assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and provide care that will support the health and wellbeing of members pre and post deployments.
  4. Provide medical technical advice to the Joint Health Unit (JHU) Commanding Officer (CO), Joint Health Command (JHC) Health Centre Manager and Commanders of units.
Requirements:
  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner, General in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) OR Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) OR Vocational Registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years full-time postgraduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years (or part-time equivalent).
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
