Botanical Specialist Role

The position involves working in our passionate Flora and Vegetation Team, collaborating with a close-knit group of experts in botany.

You will undertake comprehensive detailed flora and vegetation surveys, targeted significant species surveys, technical reporting, and impact assessments based at our herbarium located at Perth office. Additionally, you will manage and maintain the in-house herbarium and contribute to the professional growth of our team of botanists through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying plant specimens collected during Detailed, Targeted and Monitoring surveys from diverse bioregions mainly within the arid zone.
  • Preserving and cataloging samples ensuring proper storage and documentation for future reference or verification.
  • Maintaining taxonomic accuracy through scientific literature, workshops collaboration with museums and universities and staying current with classification changes.
  • Mentoring graduate and intermediate botanists in taxonomy.
  • Providing technical support and advice to the broader Environmental Services sector.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science within Botany Biology Ecology or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years' professional experience undertaking species identification ideally focused on WA flora.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including advanced technical reporting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated research abilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively.
