About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced senior lawyer to manage complex and sensitive litigation across a diverse range of cases.

  • Handling personal injury litigation (negligence and breach of statutory duty)
  • Addressing historical institutional abuse claims involving former minors and young persons in state care
  • Managing contempt of court and vexatious litigant claims
  • Working on matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997
  • Conducting judicial reviews, asset confiscation, coronial inquests, public liability cases, and subpoenas

You will have the opportunity to support other streams of work within the branch, ensuring a varied and enriching experience.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage complex and sensitive proceedings in state courts and tribunals
  2. Provide comprehensive written and oral legal advice
  3. Act for government or statutory authorities and/or insurers
  4. Supervise files and/or mentor staff
  5. Work closely with team-members to deliver exceptional results for clients
  6. Solve problems and conduct research
  7. Meet deadlines and work under pressure
Requirements
  1. 6+ years post-admission experience
  2. Demonstrated experience in conducting complex and sensitive proceedings
  3. Proven experience providing comprehensive written and oral legal advice
  4. Experience acting for government or statutory authorities and/or insurers would be highly regarded
  5. Proven ability to supervise files and/or mentor staff
  6. Strong interpersonal communication skills
  7. Practical problem solving and research skills
  8. A strong focus on turnaround time and ability to work under pressure
