Job Description:

Maintain a secure environment for visitors by safeguarding the facility, its collections, and staff.

This role involves exercising discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment while interacting with guests and providing accurate information about the museum's collections.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate, motivated, and energetic team-member who values the State's history and seeks to protect its invaluable artifacts with utmost care and attention.

  • Safeguard the museum's collections and areas where they are on display
  • Provide visitors with accurate information in a professional and courteous manner
  • Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere by working effectively with museum staff and visitors
  • Ensure guests follow safety guidelines required for the protection of art, museum building, and staff
  • Aid staff members as needed on occasions that may affect the collection or facility

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular physical inspections of grounds and buildings before opening hours
  • Activate and monitor alarm systems
  • Investigate accidents and document specific complaints for safety hazards
  • Assist with setup and take down of equipment for museum functions, special events, and other programs within the museum
  • Under the direction of Facilities and Security Manager, assist staff periodically with mailings, front desk assistance, deliveries, and moving heavy objects and crates

Requirements:

  • Ability to act calmly and authoritatively in emergency situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of proper use of emergency, communications, and security equipment
  • Familiarity with CPR/AED/First Aid (certifications will be provided)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products Word and Excel

Working Conditions:

  • Work schedule includes standard 40-hour week with flexibility to include weekend hours and some evening hours
  • Must be able to move and stand for several hours at a time

Educational Requirements:

  • High-school diploma
  • One year of experience in a security-related field
