Lead Cafe Manager

Job Overview

The lead cafe manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a busy cafe. This includes ensuring high-quality food and coffee service, managing staff, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the cafe service journey to ensure prompt and efficient service.
  • Enforce coffee-making standards to maintain quality.
  • Monitor speed of service during peak periods and make adjustments as needed.
  • Oversee upselling and suggestive selling to increase average spend.
  • Monitor customer feedback and act promptly on complaints or opportunities.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Lead daily team huddles to set expectations, priorities, and standards.
  • Ensure all new hires complete induction, training, and food safety requirements within two weeks.
  • Coach and mentor staff on coffee quality, service standards, and customer care.
  • Manage team accountability and reinforce high standards.
  • Recruit and retain staff who bring skill, energy, and cultural fit.

Operations & Stock Management

  • Manage ordering and stock levels to meet demand without overstocking.
  • Ensure accurate stocktakes and purchase orders are raised as needed.
  • Track waste daily and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee preparation and display of products to ensure freshness and appeal.
  • Deliver promotions and seasonal offers effectively.

Compliance, Safety & Food Standards

  • Maintain strict food safety and compliance standards within the cafe.
  • Oversee daily cleaning schedules, temperature checks, and food safety logs.
  • Respond to and document incidents, ensuring corrective actions are taken.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' cafe management experience.
  • Proven ability to deliver cafe-level profit, wage, and waste targets.
  • Strong barista skills and product knowledge.
  • Leadership experience managing teams of 10+.
  • Excellent customer service and training skills.
