Collections Officer, NTAG and Digitisation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Collections Officer to join our team at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT). The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the launch of the Northern Territory Art Gallery (NTAG) and contributing to the preservation of our collections for future generations.
The Collections Officer will work closely with our Conservation team to ensure the safe documentation, storage, movement, and handling of collection items. They will also collaborate with the Digitisation team to develop and implement strategies for the digitisation of our collections.
The ideal candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications in art, art history, history, or museum studies, or experience gained working in a museum or art gallery environment. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
The successful candidate will be required to address the selection criteria in the questions below and provide three referee contacts. Applications will be considered based on the candidate's ability to meet the requirements of the position.
Key Responsibilities:- Support the launch of the Northern Territory Art Gallery (NTAG)
- Contribute to the preservation of our collections for future generations
- Work closely with the Conservation team to ensure the safe documentation, storage, movement, and handling of collection items
- Collaborate with the Digitisation team to develop and implement strategies for the digitisation of our collections
- Address the selection criteria in the questions below
- Relevant (or working towards) tertiary qualifications in art, art history, history, or museum studies, or experience gained working in a museum or art gallery environment
- Experience in the handling of objects in a museum or art gallery environment
- Experience in the use of Collections Management Systems (EMu preferred)
- Understanding of preventative conservation practices
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and completing tasks within scheduled timeframes
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to prepare high quality documentation
- Understanding and knowledge of WHS standards and the implementation in relation to safe practices for the movement, location, and storage of collections, lifting and carrying objects, climbing ladders and use of tools
