Job Opportunity: Editorial AI Prompt Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Editorial AI Prompt Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and refining sophisticated language systems that power our newsroom tools, ensuring every interaction is precise, ethical, and aligned with our editorial standards.

About the Role

  • Create and Refine AI Prompts: Serve as the bridge between advanced AI technology and practical journalism, crafting, testing, and refining the prompts that guide our AI models to meet exacting standards.
  • Collaborate with Editorial Teams: Build tools that enhance workflow efficiency while maintaining the integrity of quality journalism.
  • Fine-tune AI Interactions: Develop and fine-tune sophisticated prompts that guide AI models to produce accurate, contextually appropriate responses for diverse journalistic applications.
  • Partner with Journalists: Work closely with journalists and editorial teams to understand workflow requirements and translate them into effective AI interactions.
  • Define Excellence Benchmarks: Establish and document excellence benchmarks for AI outputs, ensuring adherence to accuracy, relevance, tone, and editorial guidelines.
  • Build a Library of Prompt Patterns: Create and maintain a comprehensive, version-controlled library of prompt patterns and strategies for organisation-wide use.
  • Share Insights and Strategies: Share insights and successful strategies across teams to drive ongoing improvement and learning.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Journalism Background: Genuine passion for journalism and understanding of modern newsroom operations.
  • Coding Experience: Demonstrated elementary coding experience, preferably in Python, natural language processing (NLP), and prompt engineering using different models.
  • Language Skills: Strong grasp of language semantics and syntax, coupled with an experimental mindset.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with both journalists and technical teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy.
